What is Operating system
The operating system is basically a system program that is a medium between all the computer hardware components and application software.Through the operating system, users/programmers can use their application program to communicate with computer components to perform their essential computing tasks.
Without an operating system, application programs and computer hardware are nothing and users can not do anything to their computing tasks.
The operating system performs the following two functions:
- The operating system as machine expanding
- The operating system as resource management
1.The operating system as machine expanding
The function of the operating system is to provide the user with an extended or virtual machine equivalent, which is easier to program than the built-in hardware. The operating system basically provides a variety of services that can be obtained by using special instructions called Program System Call.
2.The operating system as a management resource
Let's imagine that some computers are present on some computers. All are tied together to print their output on the same printer. Then the first few lines can be from the first program, the second program, or the third program, and the next few lines can be from the first program, another program, or third program. In this way, the printout result of all three programs will be anarchy. Therefore, in this case, here in the operating system the disk can buffer all the presets set for the printer and order. When a program is finished, the operating system copies its output from the disk output where it is stored in the printer, while other programs may continue to generate more output.
In this way, the operating system can perform all programs to print all the actual programs correctly.
