How to Change the Computer Processor
Computer processor chip is often described in various computing platforms as the brain of the system because it is responsible for handling computations and distributing different functions from the background without user knowledge. There are two main manufacturers of computer processor chips in the market, these are Intel Corporation and AMD. These two computer processors are responsible for various technical innovations in the manufacturing giant computer hardware industry which ultimately benefits the end user. Computer processor chips have been built with small designs, but with the latest release of quad-core processors, there is a very high and fast computing capability, which means that four processors have been included in a chip architecture.Materials needed:
- Internet connection
- Web browser
- Processor chip
- Antistatic wristband
- screws
Step 1
To change (upgrade) the computer processor, you first need to know the type of motherboard installed in your machine. To do this, click the Start button and select Run option.
Step 2
In the window, type the DXDIAG command and click on OK button. It will bring the DirectX window where it will display the manufacturer of your motherboard and its model. Take care of them because you'll need them later.
Step 3
Rebooting your machine is an option by clicking on the Start button and choosing the Shutdown option. Click the Resume button.
Step 4
During the restart process, press the stop key to stabilize the display, keep in mind the motherboard manufacturer, model number, revision number, and BIOS version. Press Enter to allow the machine to boot completely.
Step 5
After the bootup process is complete, launch the web browser. Navigate to your motherboard manufacturer's website.
Step 6
Search for support on specific model numbers of your motherboard. In some cases, the manufacturer may also need a BIOS version.
Step 7
Check which type of processor supported by your motherboard. Also keep any new BIOS and driver release in mind, if any, download them. You will need these updates later.
Step 8
Buy the right type of processor based on the specifications provided by your motherboard manufacturer. If possible, buy the fastest processor that can adjust your motherboard.
Step 9
Take your screwdriver and remove all the screws that hold the CPU casing cover. Slowly remove the cover. Put on an antistatic wristband to prevent damage to the outer components.
Step 10
Unplug the computer from computer socket. Disconnect all connections from the smps to the motherboard.
Step 11
Slowly disable the CPU fan from the motherboard. Generally, there is a locking mechanism that protects the computer processor. Be sure to unlock it before trying to process the processor chip.
Step 12
After unlocking, drag the care of the chip gradually to touch the pin. Separate it to a safe place. Remove the replacement processor from your packaging and set it slowly but safely in the processor plate.
Step 13
Lock the computer processor in place. Restore the CPU fan and plug all connections from the power supply unit to the motherboard. Plug the computer on the wall socket and power it up.
Step 14
Go to the BIOS settings and check that the new processor has been read correctly by the BIOS, if not, follow the instructions of your manufacturer on how to upgrade the motherboard BIOS. Otherwise, turn off the computer.
