Install Linux on Windows

Linux is an operating system platform that has a kernel that is mainly based on Unix (another operating system). It is a product of free and open source initiative (based on GNU GPL terms) whose purpose is to allow free redistribution and modification of source code. The Linux operating system has gained prominence on most of its computer servers, although it can be viewed from mobile and embedded devices to supercomputers in various computer systems. Compared to the highly popular Microsoft Windows operating system platform, Linux is a major part of the computer market, but this stock is composed of Linux fanatics, which are dedicated to enhancing the popularity and implementation of the operating system. Increasing use of the Linux platform is primarily responsible for adopting some forms of graphical user interface. This is a huge improvement (used for GUI) compared to the previous releases, which focused primarily on recording the instructions from a command prompt.

Materials needed:

• Windows-based computer
•  Linux Live Disk
•  Virtual Pc
•  Wubi installer

Step 1
Generally, there are three secure ways to install the Linux platform on a machine running Microsoft Windows operating system. To execute Linux using a virtual PC, go to step 6. To use the Wubi installer, go to Step 10.
Step 2
The first technique to run the Linux operating system on the Windows platform machine includes the use of live disks. Launch your web browser and download live disk version from a Linux site.
Step 3
Save the file to your machine's hard drive. Once the downloading process is complete, open any writing program that will burn the file to the CD or DVD media to create a live disk.
Step 4
When the live disk is complete, reboot the machine to ensure that the first boot device is a CD or DVD drive. This allows Linux to run directly from optical media. However, there is a lack of it that it is comparatively slower than running a hard drive operating system. However, this process does not require the hard drive partitioning.
Step 5
To boot back into Windows, simply delete the live disk and reboot the machine. Live discs can be freely distributed with some computer magazines.
Step 6
To use a virtual PC, launch your web browser and go to Microsoft's website to download the app.
Step 7
When you complete the download process, install the file on your machine. It will create a virtual machine that will share resources with the host computer.
Step 8
Load the ISO format file of the Linux operating system in the virtual machine that will execute the platform. This eliminates the need to create a live disk version of Linux.
Step 9
To get back to the Windows platform, simply unload the ISO file and the corresponding virtual machine program.
Step 10
The last method is using the Wubi installer, which will keep the Ubuntu version of the Linux operating system on your machine as part of the Windows file system.
Step 11
When you complete the installation process, reboot the machine completely.
Step 12
Upon the bootup, the user will be given the option to boot Ubuntu or Windows platform. Ubuntu will complete the selection process as well as create a hard drive to be used under Linux.
Step 13
Reboot the machine and select Ubuntu to start using the Linux platform. Like most Windows-based programs, Wubi can be uninstalled using the Add / Remove Programs function.
