How to fix the Windows blue screen errors

How to fix the Windows blue screen errors

Before fixing the blue screen of Microsoft Windows Blue Screen or Death Error (BSOD), you first need to identify how much error it is, because there are many types of blue screen errors.

Tip: If you are experiencing a completely blue or light blue screen with a text or error message, then your computer may have a bad video card or monitor, which results in only blue screens. If possible, try checking that there are problems with your video card or whether your monitor is poor or not.

Note: If you are getting a blue screen and then reboots immediately after your computer is able to read the text in a blue screen, then follow the steps below. If you are unable to access the steps given below, then boot the computer in safe mode. If you are unable to boot into safe mode, you may have infected Windows system files, a defective memory chip or a faulty hard drive. To determine whether memory or hard drive causes blue screen errors, you should run a hardware diagnostic test.

  1. From the desktop or from the Windows Start menu, right-click on My Computer or Computer.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. In the System Properties window, click the Advanced tab or Advanced System Settings link.
  4. On the Advanced tab, click the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery section.
  5. In the startup and recovery window, uncheck Automatically restart check box.
  6. Click OK.

Blue screen errors

Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista and later versions of Windows have a blue screen error that is similar to the one shown below. These error messages often contain more detailed information and will contain information that can be searched and found. If you do not find a blue screen error that looks like the example below, then go to the next fatal exception section.

Note: If you are getting a solid blue screen with white text, then you are not facing BSOD. This is a problem with your video card, monitor, or other hardware. Follow a demonstration on the monitor troubleshooting steps to diagnose this problem.

Identify blue screen by finding all the capital letters along with underscores instead of the blank space, like the above example, BAD_POOL_HEADER. Write down this information below. If you do not see anything written in all caps with this kind of underscore, then leave this step.

Either receive STOP: error message at the top of the error, or in the "Technical information:" section of the error. For example, in the above error, this is stopping: 0x00000019, write down the first part of this error message below.

Finally, if technical information is shown, write the file and the address.

Once you have the above information, you can start troubleshooting the problem. Below are general blue screen errors and links to pages that contain troubleshooting steps for some of these errors.

Note: If your error is not listed in the section below, then search for the error that you typed.
