Microsoft Word shortcut keys
Below is a list of shortcut keys used more commonly in Microsoft Word. If you are looking for a list of shortcut keys used in other programs, see the computer shortcut page. Please keep in mind that some of these shortcuts can not work in all versions of Microsoft Word.
Note: If the device you are using does not have function keys like the keyboard (F1-F12), then some shortcuts will be unavailable to you.
Ctrl + 0 = Toggles 6pts of space before paragraph
Ctrl + A = Select all the contents of the page.
Ctrl + B = bold selection highlighted.
Ctrl + C = Copy the selected text.
Ctrl + D = Open the Font Preference Window.
Ctrl + E = aligns the screen or selected text in the center of the screen.
Ctrl + F = Find the Open Box.
Ctrl + I = Italic highlighted the selection.
Ctrl + J = aligns the selected text or line to justify the screen.
Ctrl + K = Enter a hyperlink.
Ctrl + L = aligns the line or selected text on the left side of the screen.
Ctrl + M = Indent paragraph.
Ctrl + N = Opens a new, empty document window.
Ctrl + O = opens the dialog box or page to choose the file to open.
Ctrl + P = Open the Print window.
Ctrl + R = aligns the line or selected text on the right side of the screen.
Ctrl + S = Save the open document. Just like Shift + F12.
Ctrl + T = Create a hanging indent.
Ctrl + U = highlight the selected text.
Ctrl + V = Paste
Ctrl + W = Close the currently open document.
Ctrl + X = Cut the selected text.
Ctrl + Y = Redo the last action.
Ctrl + Z = Undo the previous action.
Ctrl + Shift + L = Create bullet points quickly.
Ctrl + Shift + F = Change font.
Ctrl + Shift +> = Increase the selected font + 1pts by up to 12pt and then increase the font + 2pts.
Ctrl +] = Increase the selected font + 1pts.
If you have Ctrl + Shift + <12pt or less, decrease the font you selected; If it is above 12, the font decreases by + 2pt.
Ctrl + [Decrease the selected font -1pts.
Ctrl + / + c Insert a St. sign (¢).
Ctrl + '<< char> Put an accent with an accent (grave) sign, where <char> is the character you want. For example, if you wanted an accent, you would use Ctrl + '+ E as your shortcut key. To reverse the accent, often use the reverse accent on the tilde key.
Ctrl + Shift + * = View or hide non-printing characters
Ctrl + <left arrow> = runs a word on the left.
Ctrl + <right arrow> = moves one word to the right.
Ctrl + <Up arrow> = line or paragraph starts in the beginning.
Ctrl + <Down arrow> = moves at the end of the paragraph.
Ctrl + Del = removes words on the right side of the cursor.
Ctrl + Backspace = remove the word to the left of the cursor.
Ctrl + End = moves the cursor to the end of the document.
Ctrl + Home = moves the cursor to the beginning of the document.
Ctrl + Spacebar = Reset highlighted text to default font.
Ctrl + 1 = single-space lines
Ctrl + 2 = Double-Space Lines
Ctrl + 5 = 1.5-line distance.
Ctrl + Alt + 1 = changes text in heading 1.
Ctrl + Alt + 2 = changes text in heading 2.
Ctrl + Alt + 3 = changes text in title 3.
Alt + Ctrl + F2 = Open a new document.
Ctrl + F1= Open the task pane.
Ctrl + F2 = Display the print preview.
Ctrl + Shift +> = increases the selected text size with a font size.
Ctrl + Shift + = reduces the selected text size by a font size.
Ctrl + Shift + F6 = switches to another open MS Word document.
Ctrl + Shift + F12 = prints the document.
F1 = OpenHELP
Repeat the last action of the F4 show (word 2000+)
Find F5, change, and go to windows in Microsoft Word
F7 Check spell check and grammar selected text or document.
Save as F12
Shift + F3 = Change the text in Microsoft Word from uppercase to lowercase or capital letters at the beginning of every word.
Shift + F7 = runs the thesaurus check on the selected word.
Shift + F12 = Save the open document. Just like Ctrl + S.
Shift + Enter = Create a soft break and instead of a new paragraph.
Insert Shift + = Paste.
Shift + Alt + D = Enter the current date.
Shift + Alt + T = Enter the current time.
Click, press and drag from where you click and place it at the point where you drag and let go.
Double-click if you want to double-click a word, then select the full word.
Double-click on the left, center or right-hand side of the blank line, creates the alignment of text, left, center or right alignment.
Double-click anywhere after the text on the double-click, will set a tab stop.
Triple-click selects the line or paragraph of the text on which the mouse is triple-clicked.
Ctrl + Mouse wheel zooms in and out of the document
